The Song- Where have all the flowers gone

This song was written by Pete Seeger in 1961. I believe it addresses the war in Vietnam, and all war by singing about "Where have all the flowers gone" , all the good things are gone. The music is kind of a
sad tune, and very simple. The only instrument used in Pete Seeger's version of the song was a banjo/guitar
and of course he sings. Three key phrases within the songs are "where have all the flowers gone?", "Long time passing", and "oh when will they ever learn?" That is a rhetorical question. A rhetorical question is a question that doesn't need an answer, or answers itself. I think when you look at the individual phrases, you can see how this song is a metaphor, about protesting war. I think this song became popular during the vietnam war because it was a sad time for many people, and this song expressed the feelings of many people at the time. I would consider this song to be a protest song. It doesn't address war and hate directly, but if you consider the meaning of the lyrics (below) you can probably figure out what the song is really about.
